[edit] History
Born to Eimear, the youngest daughter of Lord Craig of House Rhia, Lorcan was the youngest of his four brothers and two sisters. Even as the youngest of the family, he held incredible loyalty towards his elder siblings; even if they picked on him from time to time. Being the youngest, and being a Rhia, made his life as a child a bit more difficult; his brothers were five years older than him, his sisters seven, so he had to spend his time either at his studies, or "playing" with the children of the Houses Diarnay and Aeda.
This lasted for a short while, until the "teasing" began. What was all in good fun to the children of Diarnay and Aeda didn't seem the same to Locan; being from the House Rhia, he was considered a "Rhiaspawn," a term he associated at even such a young age as insulting. As a child, he still lacked a lot of control of his temper, and many times the result of this teasing ended in a fight. Quickly Eimear pulled her youngest son into the relative safety – and loneliness – of staying strictly away from the others.
As Lorcan aged another year or two, about the time he was seven, he had picked up a large interest in swords. Eimear, watching his interest grow more and more rapidly, eventually approached her youngest. "Sweetheart," she said, "You love our family and want to protect us like a big boy, yes?" She knew the answer before her youngest smiled and nodded quickly. Eimear patted her son on the head and told him she'd have a surprise for him.
Surprise it was, too. Growing up, Eimear had known a young boy named Ultan. As a teenager, Ultan had promised Eimear that, while he could never love her as a husband, he would always protect her; thus, he became a knight under the banner of Rhia and, of course, Milesia. Lorcan had not seen Ultan in many months, though the morning after his mother's questioning the knight showed up again, asking him many different questions. These questions were about honor, and loyalty; each one Lorcan answered to the best he could.
The answers seemed to please Ultan, whom immediately reported to Eimear. If Lorcan pleased, Ultan would be his mentor and allow the young Lord to train under him as a knight. Eimear brought this up to her son, who quickly accepted; it would mean protecting his family and the land he loved so much, so he would do it.
Ultan was surprised at Lorcan's enthusiasm when he began training the child. Lorcan listened to every word intently, often times cutting Ultan off to ask another question, or ask why something was done one way instead of another. Ultan found himself intrigued by the child's inquisitive mind, but even more so his eye for detail. Lessons on battle tactics became quite like a well played game of chess.
At the age of thirteen, Ultan began calling Lorcan his squire, beginning the teachings of swordplay and horseback riding. It took an entire year before Ultan would begin teaching Lorcan how to use his sword on horseback, and even then it was without armor. Lorcan was sixteen before Ultan would allow him to train wearing armor with his sword, and seventeen by horseback. This was to ensure that he wasn't sloppy in style, or risk injury. Within these four years, Ultan taught Lorcan how to take care of his horse, his swords and armor, and moved on to advanced battle tactics using geography and weather to advantages. These lessons were on top of those Lorcan was still given; history, politics, mathematics, etiquette, and religion.
Even though Ultan believed that Lorcan was ready to be knighted at the age of eighteen, Lorcan didn't agree. He did not feel as if he had the proper experience needed yet to be considered a true knight, and continued to study under Ultan for another year and a half. Reflecting back during this time, Ultan realized how much Lorcan had grown since taking him as a page over ten years prior; no longer was he the extremely loyal, hot headed noble child, but instead a calm, down to earth noble with a strong sense of loyalty and justice – exactly what a good knight needed.
Lorcan was knighted by his grandfather, the ruling Lord Craig, on Lorcan's twentieth birthday. It was on this day when Lorcan received his gift from Ultan; a black stallion – or more specifically a warhorse – bred specifically for Lorcan. This was given to him alongside his first sword, and his new armor; it was a day of much celebration.
[edit] Personality
As a child, Lorcan was rather unruly. While he was a sweet kid at heart, he didn't know any real self control, and tended to find himself in a lot of trouble – something no one whom is a noble needs. He was fiercely loyal to his family and house, but due to his immaturity and lack of self control, he tended to get angry and insulted over small jokes, such as "Rhiaspawn."
Lorcan is extremely gifted as a tactician, and should not be taken lightly. Ultan, whom had been a knight for many years even learned a thing or two from the child he was training. It seemed to Ultan that Lorcan was destined to become a knight; that was his true calling set forth by the Dragons.
As Lorcan got older, he matured a great deal. Spending time with Ultan and having a strict daily schedule helped a great deal with this. As he matured, he learned how to control his wild temper from when he was a child – but that is not to say that the temper is entirely gone, he is just far slower to anger. His sense of justice and his pride for the House of Rhia has only managed to grow even larger as he trained to become a knight.
Lorcan's reasoning for waiting almost two years to be knighted was never spoken verbally. He did not feel ready at the time, though he knew he could do it if need be; in all honesty, Lorcan did not feel that he would be the best knight at the time until he perfected a few things first. He was still inadequate with a sword on horseback at the age of eighteen, and struggled with larger bladed weapons on his own two feet. These obstacles he felt he needed to overcome before he would let go of being a squire and step into knighthood under his grandfather.
Lorcan's biggest personality flaw is that, while he's from Southern Dentoria, a place where the people are laid back -- he's far from it. This is not necessarily due to the fact that he is a prude, but more on how he has spent the last ten years of his life; training under one man, and never leaving that man's side. Lorcan's loyalty to his home and family, not to mention the sense of justice he carries tend to make him more of an outcast in the brotherhood of knights, making him the social loner. While he feels isolated from the other members of the knights, and even his own people, he still loves and protects them as if they were his own flesh and blood; after all, they are in Rhia, his place of birth which he swore to protect with his knightly vows.

[edit] Appearance
Lorcan stands at just under 5'10", with a lean but rather well built body due to his years of apprenticeship as a knight squire. His skin is nearly bronze from constantly working outside, but also due to being from southern Dentoria; while his hair is the natural blond that most of Dentoria shares. His eyes are a deep, shimmering cobalt; probably one of the first things that one would focus on if they were speaking to him, because they stand out so well.
[edit] Other
Lorcan's journal is rhiaspawn. He is played by Elzie and PB'd by Hugo from Suikoden III.
