Jayne is a young woman who learned the hard way just how valuable a family is. The girl of two years ago who only wanted to prove how superior she was and get under people's skin has been replaced by a calmer, more frigid woman.
Unfortunately, she's also developed a craving for blood. Karyl's blood, to be specific.

Though her family was loving and basically functional, five children was a bit much for two working parents. As the second daughter and third child of this family, Jayne often found herself overlooked while her parents were praising her older sister or tending to her younger siblings. Having always suffered from self-esteem issues, the percieved lack of attention only made her feel worse, and she became increasingly bitter and sulky. She grew to resent her family, blaming them for her issues and distancing herself from them as much as possible. She ran away often, staying in the forests near her home for days at a time, and focused heavily on the study of wind magic.
Jayne left her home a year ago in attempt to find herself, and found a new home with her former teacher, Lady Audrina, in Hanalan. She was happy there, but the news of her youngest brother Oscar running away to find her threw a kink into the new life she was trying to build. Oscar found her by entering the journals, and when he refused to go home unless Jayne did, Jayne asked Lady Audrina to let him stay there.
Life was peaceful for a short time once again, but one night Karyl showed up to "settle a score" with Lady Audrina. Jayne stepped in to protect her teacher and was wounded. Worried for Oscar's safety in the event Karyl returned, and knowing he wouldn't go home if she remained n Hanalan, she agreed to return to Kilia with him.
Now back in her beloved forests, she concentrates on living her life and fantasizing about ending Karyl's.

Jayne does not do well with most other people. She's very paranoid, easily scared and upset, and prone to putting up protective barriers of anger or frigid apathy when she feels threatened...which is quite often. She doesn't even feel completely safe with the people she does trust, constantly worried they'll turn around and stab her in the back.
She's extremely stubborn and rarely admits when she's wrong, or lets anyone see her cry. She hates the thought of being dependent on others, but is afraid of being unwanted and alone.
Other than wind magic, the things she treasures most in life are plants and literature; her idea of a good time is spending hours in the forest reading.
She's very easily scared, and has a deep fear and loathing of rapists and murderers, especially the sociopathic Karyl.
Recently, she's matured somewhat; while she hasn't gained complete perspective, she wouldn't be caught dead thinking things she did two years ago. She's also conflicted by her longing to murder Karyl, as she's always hated the thought of blood on her hands.

Jayne is tall with pale skin, narrow violet eyes, and long black curls that spill halfway down her back. The dark colors she favors serve to make her appear paler than she is. She's rather thin, which might give one the impression of illness were it not for the color in her cheeks. She's quite proud of her appearance, to the point where being called 'ugly' doesn't bother her in the least.
